Heat or Hype?

Even the casual sports fan would have to be living under a rock not to have heard that LeBron James and Chris Bosch have signed on with the Miami Heat creating a powerful trio that includes Dwayne Wade. Over past decades there have been several high profile trades/free-agent moves that have culminated into success. Most recently the Boston Celtics put Paul Pierce, Ray Allen and Kevin Garnett on the hardwood back in 2007. Also, who could forget duos like Kobe and Shaq, Michael J. and Scottie P. or Hakim and Clyde Drexler? These squads all had their supporting casts but it was, without a doubt, the play of the marquee talent that made the engines run. But for all the teams that went out and spent the money to get the player(s) they thought they needed to win a championship, there are always the attempts that failed. Most notably, the 2003-2004 L.A. Lakers with Kobe Bryant, Karl Malone, Gary Payton, and Shaquille O’Neal. With a line up like that how could they lose to the Detroit Pistons in the Finals?

The Miami Heat have rolled the diced and thus created one of the most talented trio’s to run the floor. Of course, they will still need a few role players but there is reason once again to be excited if you live in South Florida. However, the question still remains ….can they win a championship? And If so, how many?
